The bible is proof of nothing?

It just a storybook account of some events which may/may not have taken place, written down years after the fact by many people, and translated countless times. How is this evidence for a god? The theories in science books are based on OBSERVABLE and TESTABLE phenomena. To use the bible as a source for anything is silly. How can a person choose religion over science? some people say that they believe in both religion and science, this is just plain wrong. If someone is theist can you infer anything about their intelligence?
